New Monitor For Macbook Pro
« on: April 20, 2010, 03:35:06 am »

I am considering the Eizo CG223W or the NEC PA241W for use with a new MBP 17. First off lets get the fact that at this time a MBP does not support 10 bit per channel output, out of the way. My hope is Apple can change that with a firmware/driver upgrade, although I am not holding my breath. I had been favoring getting an IPS display and 24 inch is better than 22. The NEC also has a 14 bit LUT vs the Eizo's 12 bit LUT. I have Monaco X rite calibration which will be fine with the Eizo, and will work with the NEC, although I understand that getting the Spectra View package is the way to go when going with an NEC monitor. So the NEC will end up costing three or four hundred dollars more (with hood). The variable that has me on the fence is longevity. I have heard a couple of opinions from folks who feal that the Eizo's will maintain color accuracy longer over the life of the monitor than the NEC's. Any thoughts on this or personal experience with these monitors would be appreciated.

I did a quick check and the Eizo has a five year warranty, the NEC four years. Does that help?

There has been some discussion of these monitors in the LL Color Management forum.
