I dont normally read DPReview for the obvious reasons... but this photo came to my attention this morning and is more than worth the click - its amazing.

Absolutely fantastic photo! Thank you for the link. This is exactly how I image an eruption. I've seen many volcanic eruptions but none was as dramatic as the one depicted here.

APOD has also a stunning photo of the eruption which looks more like a still from a Peter Jackson movie than real life.

That photographer was thinking just one thought (beyond mere survival) which was OH YEAH BABY!!!

You're right. It's an amazing shot. It takes a lot to get me to log onto DPR. I had some very unpleasant experiences over there at the hands of the measurebators; in fact I actually hung my cameras up for several months...

For some reason DPR is a cesspool.  They seem to pander to "trolls" in order to get interest.
Great volcano shot though, isn't it?  I'm glad there aren't many volcano's that are so active.
As for "gods and goddesses," I used to be a neo-pagan feminist ritual circle.  No calling down bad weather though as doing harm is against their belief system.
