Pentax adapter for Phase One 645AF?
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:38:54 pm »

Hi folks -
I just picked up my 645AF with P45+ today and am very happy with it. I got the kit with the 80mm f/2.8 lens, mainly because it was an ex-demo model and so the kit worked out cheaper than buying a back by itself.

The main use the back will have is on either an Alpa MAX or an Arca-Swiss RM3D - decision to be made early next week. However, I do have a couple of Pentax MF lenses including the 35mm f/3.5, which is a beauty of a lens.

Michael mentioned in his review of the 645AF back in 2008 that Phase One were considering a Pentax adapter for this camera. Did that every materialize? I can't see anything about it on the company site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks. I should have said I'm looking to use Pentax 645 lenses, not 67.

Cheers,
Peter

Peter,

Per what I know, there is none available.

I desperately looked for this the other year, simply because some of the Pentax 645 lenses are known to be good, e.g. 35mmm and the 33-55 is cheaper and wider at better optics than the Mamiya 35 per my understanding. It is physically possible to make such an adapter, but it would need to be very short, hence perhaps why noone has yet made it.

Pentax adapter for Phase One 645AF?

I asked Zork about a Pentax 645 to Mamiya 645 adapter to use the 35mm FA 3.5 on a AFDIII.  Their concern was that
you would loose infinity focus since the focal distance is the same and the adapter would push the lens past infinity.

This does not sound correct. I do not remember if it was around 7mm available or what dimension between the two mounts. If made proper for sure infinity focus would remain. However per what I recall someone said a few years back that Zoerk had made a prototype but did not feel comfortable to put it into fabrication.

An alternative is of course to use Hasselblad lenses via an adapter. This is actually what I am looking at in replacing my Mamiya 55-110. Pending on what lens & version, they are perhaps arguably of better optics than Pentax.

Thanks for the information, I'll have a look at the Hasselblad option.
