I don't know... my eyes start at the bottom of the frame, follow the trees and the tire tracks to the vanishing point in the middle, then ask, "Is that it?"

My 2¢

Mike.

Thanks for the replies. I tend to agree with you wolfnowl, it needs something more.

Dan,

I usually find myself agreeing with Mike, but not this time. I find this image quite appealing. It may be just my present mood, but I read it as a kind of metaphor or fantasy: The object at the vanishing point suggests a royal figure, and the rows of trees are the royal guard in their dress uniforms.

Or it might be a shot from inside an orchestra or chorus and the tree at the vanishing point, with arms upraised, is the conductor.

OK, so you may wonder what I've been smoking. But I just enjoy images that stimulate my imagination, and this one does.

Dan, Sorry, but I agree with Mike. To paraphrase Walker Evans: "It's a beautiful orchard. So what?"

Hadn't seen it from that perspective... I like the metaphor!

Whew! Thanks, Russ. I've been worried that I've been agreeing with you too much recently.

Russ, and if there were people running around in the orchard, you might even agree that it's a nice image.

Dan,

Is this a photograph or a composite? The sharpness of the trees (or lack thereof), the shadows,... seem a bit un-natural to me.

Beyond that though, I find the grass in the middle to be a problem. I worked on a similar image of mine recently and ended up cropping higher to reduce the weight of the IMHO un-interesting foreground (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bernardlanguillier/4488988747/), but already isn't too much of that in yours. You could perhaps add a nacked model lying in the grass?

Cheers,
Bernard
Not a composite. Depth of field was an issue here. I used a 90mm f/2 OM at f/16 with a polarizer. I did focus stack some images that day and this may be one that I haven't blended yet, I need to check. The sun was at a 90 degree angle to my line of site which aided the polarizer's effectiveness.

I didn't say it's not a nice image, Eric. I paraphrased what Walker Evans said about a picture of a beautiful sunset. He agreed that the sunset was a nice image. The orchard definitely is a nice image.
