custom profile for Sinar eVolution 75H- How?
« on: April 14, 2010, 04:00:04 pm »

Hello,
How does one go about creating a custom profile for the Sinar eVolution 75H? What target do you shoot? How do you compile the profile? Where do you place the profile?

Mac OS X 10.5.8
2x3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
9 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

CaptureShop 5.6.4
Sinar p3
NO LC Shutter
Firmware 2.3
Connection FireWire

The Capture menu is attached. Calibrate Colors ... has never been available.

Thanks!

You can create an ICC profile with an ICC profiling software like Profilemaker. To do this you need to export an image of a color chart with the sensor profile as working space. I made best experience with the ColorChecker SG. ColorChecker and ColorChecker DC give good results as well.
  • Capture an image of your color chart
  • Select "Input profile" as working space in the working space plugin under the process tab. So the RGB values are not transformed to any working space.
  • Export the image of the chart
  • Create an ICC profile
  • Put the ICC profile under /Library/Application Support/Sinar/CaptureShop/Calibration/Color into the right back folder
Next time you start CaptureShop, you can select your new ICC profile in the Input Profile plugin under the Capture Tab.

Creating a good quality profile is not that easy, though. You have to light your color chart very evenly.

$99 X-Rite ColorChecker Passport
Good hint. The color chart is affordable and can be used instead of the original ColorChecker. The profiles generated by the Passport software cannot be used with CaptureShop, though. They are not ICC but Adobe DNG targeted profiles. CaptureShop can currently only use ICC Input profiles and profiles generated by its integrated color calibration.
