'Writing XMP Metadata did no complete successfully

Is the error message that pops up when I try to update the metadata CTRLS in Lightroom 2.6 on 45 jpegs in their own directory.

There are two options - 'Show in Library or Ignore'.
Show in library just creates a colllection of the 45 images under the heading 'error'. Ignore obviously does nothing.

Anyone seen this before?

I can write out XMP to any other images in other directories and folders A-ok.

Edit - the folder is not marked read only either.

Solved - for some reason the photos has imported as read only - just had to set them to Read/Write.
