Advice about old backs
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:12:51 am »

I would like to get a back for Hasselblad V for product shots.

My budget allows me:
- H25 22MP
- 384C 16MP Multishot

What would be better?
(or something else?)

Hi, i have done 90 percent of my professional work on a 384back, no color screen but mostly tethered in studio. If you mostly wok in a square format, the 384 is the back to go. Unlike the H25 it can be perfectly used on location. I have used it in helicopters, nuclear power plants, high up in power  line towers etc. I never bothered about the image bank, it is a fast and safe storage.
if you mostly use rectangular images, and only want to use the back in studio; go H25.

I shoot daily w/ a H25 and Mamiya RZ.  The tethering is a bit of a hassle, but I have a 30' FW cable that allows me to move around the studio easily.  It's a great back and solid workhorse!

I do about 50% 1:1 and 50% 4:3.
I would prefer 22MP 4:3 but it is not critical.
I do only tethered and mostly studio.

I thought the colors are better with phase one?

What is the problem to use H25 on location?

384 can be used without image bank only tethered?

I can stretch and get P25.
Much difference in image quality @ISO50?

Probably worth adding a Leaf Valeo 22 to your list:

Fast and simple tethering: 1 FW cable, 1 sync cable, 1.2 sec/ frame
Very good Live View (you will need a dongle for that)
25 iso Dalsa sensor
Files are compatible with many 3rd party apps

And if you can stretch it to an Aptus 22, you will gain all the above plus full portability with a big screen and files that also work in Capture One Pro...

good luck in your search

If you find one consider a valeo22. I look at some of those files from back when and really love the look at those files.

Cant believe you beat me to it Yair

The H25 and P25 are very very similar in image quality at ISO50.

You didn't mention what you were shooting, but for still stuff the multishot backs are really quite amazing.
