Camera to Print Tutorial
« on: March 30, 2010, 05:15:02 pm »

Have any Aperture users in this forum found the LL Camera to Print Tutorial to be useful in understanding going from Aperture out to PS3 to print? The tutorial seems to be oriented to LR users. Does any of the LR info apply to Aperture users?
I am looking for color management and soft proofing help in particular, but also info on uprezzing, sharpening, and final adjustments to match print to display.
Until now I've done all printing straight out of Aperture to an Epson 7800, but have hit a wall with printing custom print sizes from Aperture 2. Any other sources of info on the subject would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Jamie,
I'm not an Aperture user but I've seen Camera to Print. I would say that while C2P is heavily based on ACR for RAW processing it might still provide you with useful info. Softproofing is done in Photoshop. There's also a chapter on Photoshop color settings and printing from Photoshop with different printers from Canon, Epson and HP (IIRC). Discussions about RIPs, books, resolution, scanning etc can also be helpful.

I can't decide for you but the investment is not that great. Others might not share my opinion on the benefit of C2P.

Here's the list of the videos included in C2P:

01_Introduction.mov
02_PrinterModels.mov
03_CompareImages.mov
04_Optimize_Calibrate.mov
06_JPEG_BitDepth_ColourSpace.mov
05_Scanning_Film.mov
07_Optimal_Raw_Processing.mov
09_Profiling.mov
08_Noise_Reduction.mov
10_InputSharpening.mov
12_Resolution.mov
11_PhotoKitSharpener.mov
13_PhotoshopColourSettings.mov
15_Printing_from_Windows.mov
14_SoftProofing.mov
16_CS2_CS3_PrintSettings.mov
20_Books.mov
17_SolutionsMultipleSettings.mov
18_Print_from_Lightroom.mov
19_RIPs.mov

Thank you Francois,

I suspect you are right: that the soft proofing and color management portions are equally relevant to Aperture and probably justify the cost alone. And I am getting to the point of grasping for anything that might solve my color printing issues, so $35 is looking like a good investment!

Thanks again,

Have you taken a look at Aperture 3?  Here's a list of printing improvements:

The User's Manual is on-line (in case you haven't looked):

Just trying to help.  No fun to have a wall keep you from completing what you set out to do.

Thanks Kirby
The best test of whether A3 solves my custom page size issue is to do some printing from the demo version of the software. I will be doing that in the coming week.
