Custom Soft-Side cases

I use this lightware case for my short stands.  Drag is it's more than I need, maybe 5 inches too long and 3-5 inches to wide and high.  I like a soft side case for the stands, because it helps lighten the weight and they take less of a beating.  I'd even go with two of Lightware's tripod cases if they had shorter ones (27" Interior length).  Anybody have any other suggestions or know where I can have something custom made or existing modified?  I'm prepared to throw a reasonable pile of cash at this, as it's annoyed me for 18 months now.

Gracias,

CB

If you're throwing cash,
perhaps Versa-Flex will modify one of their existing models for you.

That's the ticket.  I forgot all about Versaflex, I've only come across their cases when renting gear, but was always impressed.

I've owned two of those cases and detest them.  They sag, they don't really protect anything, they don't travel well, they don't balance on a cart and the handles are just flimsy.

Personally, my favorite cases for stands are hard thick plastic tube cases with wheels.  They're basically round with flat sides so they stack and they have a comfortable handle and wheels.

I don't have a photo in front of me of the cases, but I bought them from Kennedy Eng. In Texas.

Also if you want to find something and don't know the exact name or product, call Karen at Samy's in LA on Fairfax, in the pro department.

She'll probably know.

Or contact any grip house in rentals.  Film guys usually have more functional cases than still guys.

For soft cases I always buy Tenba.  They're expensive but seem to be better built.

For light travel, I use a hard shipping case for golf clubs. I like it, because it opens completely open where you can see and get to everything, rather than those end-opening cases where you're trying to cram in a light stand or tripod, or find a roll of gaffer tape in the bottom of the case. I don't know the brand name, but they're cheap, like $149, and we use them til they die and then buy more. Nice latches, and we rig them up with velcro to make sure they don't open by mistake, by a rough skycap.

It's not sexy, but it's cheap and they last forever.

GW is probably referring to SKB brand.

They offer a small roller case, now upgraded with TSA latches.

Otherwise, here are their golf cases .

Yes, I've seen excellent cases from Versa-flex for Broncolor Para umbrellas and Lightbars.

Detective BJNY has once again solved the cold case. Yes, those are the exact cases. Of the golf cases, there is a small and large, and i like the small. That rail case thing is pretty cool too; did not know about that.

I will now return to my main duty now, of trying to find something that Billy cannot find details on. Stay tuned.
