Mysterious magenta dashes

Help! Please.

I suddenly found a series of magenta(ish) small dashes appearing on a print after I had already produced several other prints without any problem. I reprinted the same image and the problem had vanished.  Is this sort of intermittent problem something one should expect from time to time?
Does anyone have an explanation as to why this might happen?
I'm using a 24" iMac with OS 10.5.8 Epson 3800.  Printing from LR2.

Kind regards

It sounds like a corrupt print file rather than a printer problem. Hence, when you made a second print, LR spooled a new file to the printer and all was well. As to why it should happen, it may just be a one-off glitch. Has it ever happened before?

Thanks for the reply John.

I have never seen this before and it was on  a paper that I use for many of my prints Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl.
One of the odd things was that the marks were not only on the print but also in the border on one side.
The image was of a lake and when I first saw it I thought that I had found some previously invisible goldfish!

Kind regards
