electronic remote control for Copal 0 shutter?
« on: March 24, 2010, 10:21:36 am »

Hello,

I do sometimes need to remote controll my cameras via radio.
It ist very easy to do this with my Hasselblad, but I would really like to be able to use my ALPA with Rodenstock 23mm...

The remote has to do two things:

1. release the shutter of Copal 0
2. reload the shutter pf Copal 0

I thing I could get the first step by using a pushing linear solenoid (magnet):
http://www.intertec.org/common/db/pdf/magnet/ITS-LZ-1335.pdf (german)

But should I use a bigger one for step two?

I also went to a shop for RC racecars etc. to talk about "Servos".
The owner of the shop told me that those parts do not fit my needs.

I the end I need to have an electronic port (2.5mm) similar to my Hasselblad and the smaller Canons.

ANY IDEAS?

Thank you in advance!

Hello chiek,

thank you for posting this link.
I have allready ordered my solenoid (a 4mm pushing type).
So this seems to be the solution for "step 1".

I hope to find a solenoid which pulls 30mm in less then a second to "wind up" the copal 0 shutter.
(12 V)

Are you using a shutter with two cable releases, one to fire the shutter and one to re-cock?

You could use a press type shutter that uses one cable to cock and fire.

I thought that R/C type servos would have done the job with less shake than a solenoid.

I am intending to buy a set of electronic shutters, for remote use and for triggering by shutter-beams and pocket wizards - has anyone done this?

It sounds like a Prontor shutter would be a better match if it fits on an alpha. I use to shoot with them on 4x5 but they don't fit on my Cambo Wide DS. If they fit on the Alpha that might be a better start. The one thing about the Prontor, it  takes more force to trip the shutter then a copal. I might still have one for sale if your interested.
