Panasonic G1 .RW2 files won't open on my Windows XP-HELP!

I just purchased a Panasonic G1 but the raw files won't open on my Windows XP.

Do I have to upgrade to Windows 7 or is there a way to convert .RW2 files so that they can be opened in XP?

I'd rather not be bothered with a Windows upgrade at this time.

Any help would be appreciated.

if you are just talking about being able to browse your pictures using Windows XP explorer then there is a free codec pack = http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/ ... or install some free applications like xnview = http://xnview.com/en/index.html

What are you trying to do with them?  Did you load the Silkypix application that came with the camera?

Out of curiosity are you using Camera Raw / Photoshop? (I ask because this is the ACR subforum but I didn't see a mention of which version of Photoshop/ACR you were using, so I was a bit puzzled ...)

I had this problem with a student camera like yours and the only way I could deal with it in the short term was to use the proprietary (Panasonic) raw translator to .dng and then it would work with CS3.  Latter I found that I did have all the correct updates which should have worked, but I actually had to reinstall the ACR update again to get it to recognize the .RW2 files w/o the .dng translation.
