Color Eyes Display Pro & Eizo
« on: March 07, 2010, 11:17:58 am »

Does or has anyone used this software to calibrate their Eizo monitor? It was my software of choice when just altering the graphics card LUT but for some reason it will not interface with the Eizos monitor LUT. It just keeps flattening out the red and green channels until it can flatten them no more, then resorts to adjusting the graphics card LUT.

For anyone who does use it without issue, how do you find profile loading? ColorNavigator couldn't be easier, with it simply sitting in the tray at the bottom and a right click will let me load between different profiles.

The reason I'm looking into CEDP is unacceptable results with Color Navigator (Well not completely unacceptable, but I believe they should be better), and I have it on (very) good authority CEDP is the better program. Even with ignoring the monitor LUT and adjusting the graphics card it can hit a much lower DeltaE average.

I'm using CED Pro v1.52r032 with an EIZO CG211 on a MacBook Pro and an EyeOne Pro spectro......with no problems. The CG211 is obviously a secondary monitor on my system.

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious but....

* Have you chosen the EIZO CG/CE driver under the monitor settings in CED? Did you check "Utilize Digital Controls"?

* Also, I've gotten in the habit of hitting the "Reset Monitor" button to clear the monitor LUTs before I start the calibration process.

You mentioned about CED achieving a "lower DeltaE". Again, to possibly restate the obvious, that isn't necessarily a measure of the ACCURACY of the display+profile, it's simply a "round trip" of the display profile comparing "expected" values to "actual" measured values....it's a bit like grading it's own test....but it's not a measure of absolute accuracy in terms of soft-proofing, etc. Having said that, I believe it's still useful as an internal check of the profile's "consistency".

Hi terry,

Yup, Eizo LCD selected from the monitor drop down box with DDC enabled. I didn't try and clear any prior LUT's before starting the calibration process though, nor have I yet tried calibrating with ColorNavigator completely removed from my system.

With regards to the DeltaE, I did suspect it could well just be a case of grading ones own test, but ColorNavigator hits a max DeltaE of 1.7, with CEDP hitting a max of 0.6 (These are each programs own verification numbers). Using CEDP to verify ColorNavigators profile results in rediculous numbers running into the teens, it just seemed a bit perculiar.

How do you find CEDP handles loading monitor profiles? Do you just use the LUT Loader as you would with graphics card profiles?

Many thanks.

I have several Macs of different generations, G5 and Intel, along with a couple of CG241W monitors, calibrating with the same set of parameters I don't see any significant difference in final results using either CED or CN.

(Another obvious question:)  Is is possible that you are confusing the two LUT windows?  Working with an Eizo like yours, CED is supposed to force the "Video LUT" flat (this would be for the graphics card), and work the "Monitor LUT"  around until the proper color is achieved (this is  the internal graphics of the display.)  So you're seeing the opposite of this happening?

Fair enough. Well, if I could get CEDP working I may arrive at the same conclusion, but the techy in me refuses to let a program beat me

Not flat as in straight at 45 degrees, flat as in horizontal. But no, I'm not confusing the two. It tries manipulating the monitor LUT first (And the video LUT box is greyed out completely), can't, gives up and resorts to manipulating the video LUT which it can, and the calibration can complete. It's most odd.

At this moment we have no idea why these luts are being flattened. The issue is being worked on and we will work with Adrian to find a solution.

A year or more ago I was having problems with an earlier version of ColorEyes and they set up a phone appointment with me at my convenience and spent over an hour walking me through various scenarios until we had it figured out. I have never had support that good from anyone else.

I'm glad it worked out for you!

Unfortunately the problem was never resolved, and I don't have the time at present to chase a fix   ColorNavigator is working fine so I'l carry on using that untill I can have another word with CEDP!

I'm also going to upgrade my OS to Win7 so I shall try again after that.
