custom compact view camera
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:07:19 am »

Hi all.
I'm pro photographer but my hobby is designing camera.
It is used by GX680 front standard and nikon bellows rail.
as you know, GX680 standard has full movements, frt rise/fall/shift and tilt/swing. even zero position lock.
rear standard can only tilt, because of stitching system.
It can capture 49mm x 120mm files in 3shot.
It has Hmounts, but easily can change other mounts.
It is proto type. so It can change for more comfortable.... Any ideas welcome!

example,
using 2 GX680 standard, so It can frt/rear full movements.

my previous made camera,

No laughing matter - looks like just the sort of (light weight) thing I would like for backpacking... but I would like H or V digiback compatibility, and Sinar P3 lensboard compatibility.

What does it weigh?

Sorry, not 49mm x 120mm.
49 x 100 - It's correct. (p45 or cf39)
I have not measure weight yet but I guess about 1~2kg ?
Thanks,
JK

How much price of your think ? US$2.5K? or more? or lower?

camera kit includes,

BODY for your digital back mounts (H, V, contax, mamiya)
5 lens board (copal 0 or 1...)

It's custom made. so You can choose what you like..
(no sliding version, rear shift or compact live view version, etc...)

I'm researching to make recessed board for wideangle lenses.
and I know How to actuate hassy CF lens shutter (like Hassy flexbody),
so I will make lensboard to fit CF lens. I think It's better than flexbody.

Any idea (price, function, any thoughts) welcome.

Best,
JK

Hi,

What error tolerance do you have between groundglass and sensor planes, in particular when sliding the back?

For digital, in order to achieve perfect focus it requires a max 0.02mm error tolerance per my info. If not it will be difficult to achieve focus by groundglass.

Anders

Hi, Anders.
It's custom handmade.

I calibarated 10x loupe and live-view my CF back. Ground glass adjusted by shim.
It has both merits and demerits.   very tired work but very accurate focusing.

JK

apologies for getting your ID incorrect...

no, chiek, I am not Korean, but I do travel to Seoul at least once a year, and always go and window shop at the Nam Dae Mun shops, where the availability of the GX680 seems to be plentiful.

Chiek, do you happen to know if the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8g lens gives an image circle large enough to work with your compact view cameras?

I heard 14-24 lens has excellent center/corner image quality. But I have not test yet. My 35mm systems are canon and my widest lens is 12-24 sigma. So I've test my 12-24 sigma lens. Setting to 18-24mm, it can covered 49mm x 37mm. But corner sharpness has not good. I used it for my personal work. Super wideangle (equivalent 12mm for 35mm systems), excellent center sharpness fall off corner. Feels of image quality is very good.

and due to focus flange distance. It has very difficult to use. special recessed board and control aperture/shutter needed.

the final ultimate system is compact view camera with focal plane shutter like sinar P3/sinar M combo. but cost is ultimate, too.

my future plan is 2 way.
(1) compact technical camera with rear focal plane shutter.
I found the cheapest medium format camera using FP shutter. It's body only US$89. (NEW) .It doesn't surprise you?

(2) compact camera with large leaf shutter like alpa TC. below...

I will post another version camera tomorrow. It use prontor 3 professional shutter (no cocking), canon EF mounts, and revolving system.

I've taken order from this forum user, architecture photographer. We're interested in new canon TS lenses. So we make it. Coming soon!

Best, JK
