Canon 7D and 50D
« on: February 12, 2010, 11:34:14 pm »

I have the Canon 30D and 40D, and have thought about adding the 50D. Would I be significantly better off with the 7D? I don't believe the HD video is that important to me. Thanks

Of course you would, if you can afford it. Higher pixel count, better autofocussing and faster frame rate, to mention just a few advantages.

i tried a 50D and did not find a significant difference in image quality from the 40D although the micro adjust is an advantage - and probably essential for the pixel density

pixel density also requires the best prime lenses to take advantage of the higher resolution

haven't tried the 7D yet - my only interest in it is whether it will get more resolution out of long lenses like the 400 f5.6 than a crop from the 5D2

for a noticeable improvement in IQ i'd also recommend the used 5D

The only thing to consider here is if the original poster has EF-S lenses, which won't work on a full frame camera. But I agree that the used 5D would provide the biggest jump in image quality.

As for the choice between the 50D and the 7D, I would choose the 7D for the various feature improvements.
