Arca Swiss Monoball P0

Arca Swiss have a new head

http://www.precisioncameraworks.com/Media/p0-eng-web.pdf

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6588...#specifications

I am thinking about buying it for use with Mamiya afd/zd, I allready have a Gitzo 1228 and currently I am using Manfroto 229 head (good but big and heavy).

I am looking for travel head that will give me light weight and maximum stability.

The Monoball P0 weight is 280g!

Can someone tell more about this head?

Thanks

I had the opportunity to play with the one that came in the Rm3d demo kit.  Really quick to work with, super smooth and lightweight.  For my work, a geared head is more suitable, but I wish I could go with this P0... really nice.

Does this head use a different kind of camera plate?
what's the "Arca-Swiss Slidefix Camera Plate" ?
I can't imagine arca changing to a new plate system.
maybe I'm reading way too much into this....

This isn't really a new concept, the P1 was released a year or two ago although it doesn't have the slot for shooting vertical (that's what L-Brackets are for anyway). I like the concept, but my P1 is not smooth at all, it sticks pretty bad at certain angles.

slidefix is smaller than standard arca
in fact, you can put directly a Fline camera rail on it !

but i believe that you can also choose to buy the flip lock (more expensive).

*bump*

Any further opinions/experiences/thoughts on this head? I need a new head and I'm leaning towards this one, mainly because of the built-in panning clamp functionality (I do a fair number of panos). I really can't afford to get a Kirk/Markins/RSS/whatever ballhead AND to then retrofit it with a $200+ panning clamp. The P0 seems to be the cheapest route to where I want to go. That said, I understand that you don't save any money by half-assing it on equipment that doesn't do the job and needs to be replaced later. So, is the P0 clearly inferior to any of it's similarly-priced, traditional-design ballhead competitors? What am I losing over the more expensive options? I don't use or plan to use particularly heavy gear, most likely a mid-sized Nikon body and a maybe an eventual 70-200 or 300 f/4 type lens... currently I use small primes almost exclusively.

Thoughts?

P0 was originally set to use only slide fix plates(smaller).  At photokina they will show the new P0 with a combo classic or flip lok QR which will take either normal Arca style plates or Quik slide plates.  Still very light.

I just purchased an Arca Swiss P0 MonoBall and used it quite a bit on a recent shoot.  It ius without a doubt the best MonoBall/Ball head I have ever used.  Very light, sturdy, and adjustes easily with one hand...  I LOVE it! ;D

this doesn't fit an RRS (etc) type L-plate does it?

Hello,

Has anyone tried the Oben BC-2 Ball Head?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687372-REG/Oben_BC_2_BC_2_Ball_Head.html

At $179 with quick remove plate and a rated load of 39 lbs it looks like it would easily support a medium format camera - a lot less expensive than the arca and on the surface it would look to be fairly robust and nice.

Thanks,
Neil
