Sharpening (not) workflow for Alamy
« on: February 05, 2010, 04:15:44 am »

Just wondered what people who are filing images with Alamy do re. workflow.

Alamy doesn't allow any form of sharpening and warns you to turn off the default sharpening in Photoshop (presume they mean ACR). I have CS2/ACR 3.6, but I presume if you have more sophisticated sharpeing in ACR 5 something, many people do some sharpening in ACR and then final output sharpening. Introducing Alamy into the equation seems to mean reprocessing all raw images intended for submission again, without sharpening.

Alamy's contributor information on sharpening is a bit confusing, as they tell you in several places to turn off all sharpening, but have a look at this section:

I always apply a bit of capture sharpening and have never had any QC failures as a result of doing so.

It would be a good idea for you to upgrade your software. Latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom have much improved sharpening over PS2.
