Flexbody CFV 39 and portrait format
« on: February 03, 2010, 03:24:08 am »

Hello everyone

I have a Hasselblad Flexbody and am considering purchasing a CFV39 digital back. What a great system, i tested it and was so excited by the results!!

I have one "issue" though. I would love to be able to turn the whole system, or just the back, into portrait style (vertical) to maximise all the pixels, etc available with the back and still have full access to the tilit and shift capabilities of the Flexbody. I shoot a fair amount for magazine and their crop is almost always vertical...

Has anyone tried this? Is it possible?

I asked someone if you can not just "tip" the system on a tripod and use the shift as tilt and the tilt as shift but they said this couldn't work due to the nature of tilt and shift.

Would appreciate any help!

Thanks!!!
Michael

Hi Michael

You won't be able to do it.

THe only way to get portrait format shots on a flexbody (with movements) is to buy a Phase back. Their V format backs fit in both landscape and portrait format. I used one with a P25 and it worked well though you do have to keep removing the back to focus etc.

Regards

A more interesting option is to buy a Hasselblad CF39 back. This one allows rotating and can be used on all existing MF camera's, exept for the Hy6.

How does one go about using this. The i-Adapter?

Thanks

Simply unscrew 4 torx screws and replace one adapter by an other. The hasselblad I-adapter for V camera's is made for landscape and portrait mode, just switch into the desired setting.

You'll need to be sure you find the multi-shot version. Not all CF-39s have the feature.
