Anyone really use color light meters today?  I have never encountered a reason to use one with digital.  Just a WhiBal and ExpoDisc.  $130 total.

Color meters some of us old farts used or have (something like an Minolta III) isn’t at all useful for digital. A Spectrophotometer can be (depending what kind of geek you are and want to measure). Anything that gives you a value in Kelvin is providing a value within a range, not a specific color.

I didn’t spend too long on the bug site but I don’t see if this is a Colorimeter or a Spectrophotometer (at that price point, I’d hope the later).

I used to carry a Gossen Color Meter Pro...  I found it remarkably useless.  Consistently called for 15 cc too much Magenta.

So don't miss film.

I just thought of a goofy / cool iPhone App.... Light meter.

Use the phone's (or iPod touch's) built in camera to read light levels of a scene and have an interface that looks like a light meter.  Now I just need a programmer to partner with and I'm ready to watch the 10's of dollars pour in from the app store!

Old thread but..... How would you know, for example,  how much green a given florescent light was putting out in order to gel a strobe to match without a color meter?   You can do a custom white balance for a given strobe unit but your background is still going to be screwed up if you don't know what kind of light its putting out.
