Sensor Swab problems
« on: January 13, 2010, 11:12:19 pm »

Anyone else have problems with Photographic Solutions pre-moistened Sensor Swabs? I did an Internet search but came up empty, which is strange as I've had issues with three different orders.

The  problem is that they are dry. The individual packages leaked. It was readily apparent on the now-discontinued model (red packaging) as the leaking solution caused the ink on the packaging to bleed. I sent a photo of the ink-smudged packages from the two orders to Photographic Solutions customer service, which immediately sent me enough of the new swabs to replace the bad ones. Sadly, the new swabs have the same issue. More than half of them, which are supposed to be pre-moistened, are dry. I went through the first four just to find one that had any solution left, which was worrisome as I only brought four on the trip <whew>

Another email to customer service and another promptly delivered replacement package, this time with a small bottle of solvent, just in case. Product problems aside, the customer service team is great to deal with, although I think the last email was a bit terser than the earlier ones. Guess I am grating their nerves.

Anyway, how is it possible I am the only one on earth who has had this experience with the pre-moistened swabs? On three different shipments, no less (the first two from B&H, the third from the manufacturer). I haven't yet had time or reason to open the latest package from the company. My fingers are crossed.

Anyone?

I had the same experience when I bought them many months ago.  Their customer service was nice and sent me a small bottle and  just the swabs, not the premoistened ones.  I though that they took those off the market a couple of months ago because of this.

The old pre-moistened swabs (red package) were replaced by a new, one-type-fits-all in a blue package. Same probs, I guess. I like the idea of ready-to-go swabs, but will have to settle for the bottle.

Chuck,

I hope the bad swabs won't delay the production of the upcoming issue of LensWork, which, I understand, will have some of your beautiful work.

I'm really looking forward to it. I just went through your complete website: outstanding work, all of it!

Thanks for those kind words, Eric.

Being run over by a Mack truck won't get in the way of Lenswork!
