Epson 7900 making weird noise while printing
« on: January 07, 2010, 05:33:55 pm »

Today my Epson 7900 has started making a startling noise while printing (doesn't happen every time though).

It was a noise close to tires screeching which lasted for about 1 or 2 seconds in the middle of the printing process.

Happened twice on 2 nonconsecutive prints. My printer is a little more than a year old but job frequency is very low so it's been barely used.

Has anyone experienced this and knows whether it's a reason to be worried or not ?
Thanks.

Never heard of this, but regarding being worried, sounds like something is rubbing somewhere that shouldn't be, so if it continues there is certainly some damage being done.  How severe and how long before it causes problems I don't know.

Contacting Epson seems like a logical step.

Thank you Wayne. I'll investigate with tech support.

The vacuum suction can sometimes make terrible noise, esp. on rc-papers like Premium Luster et al.
Try to lower "Paper Suction" in the printdriver.

Is the noise coming at same "place" on the print?

Now you mention it, it did happen on an rc-paper (epson premium semigloss) and with maximum paper suction.
I'll wait and see if it happens again with a lower paper suction. Thanks.
