Photo Gallery Web Host Recommendations
« on: December 31, 2009, 01:13:36 pm »

I am looking for recommendations for dependable web hosts for a photo gallery site I am planning on putting up.  I will be building pages/galleries with TTG Pages and Highslide Pro.  I would like to get a sense of basic cost/perfomance ratios if that is a good way to put it.  Someone highly recommended NeonSkyCreative...with has a $350 setup fee/$45per month...2 gig disk space, and 10 gig bandwidth.  I understand the basics of HTML, FTP etc., but am NOT an expert...so this would also be a factor.  Any help would be appreciated...I am trying to nail all this down asap.  Thanks in advance.

Brandt, Check www.inmotionhosting.com. I have 4 domains on a single account with them and pay $7.95 a month. For that I can set up six domains and get unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth. I've been doing computer engineering for 30 years and I've never found an outfit with better tech support (except my own when I still was doing it). There's no setup fee. I've used a number of hosting outfits in the past and I've never found another one that can approach these guys.

I have pretty low hosting needs so I use bluehost.com.  For commercial I generally recommend Pair.com.

Do you have any idea of your bandwidth needs?  Do you need hand holding for the creation of your site?

Edit: I forgot to mention.  Dreamhost is the hosting site of the devil.  Some others disagree.

Just as an aside unlimited is generally just a fuzzy upper limit.  At some level of usage they'll either punt you or move you to a "problem child" server.  So if a site advertises unlimited do check reviews (such as the one above).

Will you be designing/creating the galleries yourself and you're just looking for a host? Then those rates are outrageous. You don't need any special hosting just because they are photo galleries.

The price the OP posted is over the top unless they offer a lot of assistance.

Check out Infinity internet (http://www.iinet.com ). I run a web site that’s hosted by them. Initial costs are trivial and I think a 1 year contract is a whisker under $100, and it includes mailboxes and lots of other stuff. And they have about the best support team to be found anywhere.

Dark Penquin-I understand the basics of how to put the site together with the TTG Pages and Highslide Gallery...that said, there might be some questions/"issues" that come up where I might need some support...again...I'm not an expert about this...just understand the basics of html page/site structures.  Thanks to rest for advice...MUCH appreciated
