New Linhof View Camera - The Linhof Techno
« on: December 29, 2009, 08:30:50 am »

Received this from HP Marketing on a New Linhof, the Linhof Techno.

"Linhofʼs tradition of more than 120 years developing and manufacturing professonal precision camera systems con-
tinues with another innovative product designed for digital outdoor photography without compromize. The Linhof TECHNO
ideally combines the advantages of their legendary TECHNIKA field camera system and their M 679cs universal studio
system that is optimized for digital photography.
The TECHNO is a compact high-tech camera offering all of the necessary adjustment facilities for extreme short to
long focal length lenses. All currently available digital backs can be adapted. The user is always free to select his favourite
digital system. The generous adjustment facilities even cover future generations of chip backs. This new design is based
on the needs and experiences of the photographer with a special emphasis on architectural photography. This means:
shift facilities, use of wide angle lenses starting with 23 mm focal length, perfect control of vertical orientation.
The results: 40 mm of self-aligning vertical shift with exact parallel control. Zero clickstops which can be engaged
whenever needed.Spirit levels on the lens standard and the rear standard for precicise vertical orientation. A special wide
angle bellows for extremely easy adjustments. The self-aligning focusing is operated via the the camera bellows extension
and not via a helicoid system of the lens. This permits large extensions of up to 240 mm which is a requirement for long
focal length lenses. This is a camera for landscapes as well as for close-ups. With the tilts and swings and levelling of the
lens creative depth-of-field results can be achieved.
All operating elements are ergonomically placed and manufactured to Linhofʼs precision quality. Scales calibrated in
millimeters and degrees permit exact control of the adjustments.
Lenses: All lenses in mechanical or electronic shutter systems mounted on proven Technika lensboards can be used. We
recommend the latest digital lens developments from 23 mm to 210 mm.
System accessories: The M 679 professional compendium can be adapted to the accessory shoe. The lens standard is
compatible with the existing components of the Linhof M 679, such as viewing aids, adapter system and universal rapid
change adapter slide.
Good news also for classic rollfilm photography: The following rollfilm backs can be adapted to the Linhof TECHNO:
Mamiya RB, Horseman, Linhof Rapid Rollex and a special Linhof Super Rollex 6 x 9 cm back.
The new Linhof camera is a real eye catcher. An aesthetic beauty of sturdy light alloy combined with carbon fibre.

These units should be available in the new year.

It looks like there are no rear movements. That is a shame.

Good looking camera. But I don't know what niche this fills that their M679 didn't - maybe slightly more portable.

20mm rise and fall on the rear. The Techno is much lighter and portable than the M679. Less than half the weight of the M679.

i saw it at photokina 2008 and like the cam, as many linhof products. my critic is that it might be very difficult to focus for digital uses, i prefer by far the helicon mounts for architecture and landscape purposes. this seems to me much more easy, more reliable ( if calibrated well )  and faster to use.

not really new, but I think they only beginn shipping since november.
I had a quick look at a Techno a year ago, they are really well build, nearly 2x the Flexicam price, but it takes longer lenses then 120mm and also Schneider/Rollei lenses if I remember correctly.

New here in the US!  They haven't even shipped yet.  The US distributor is suppose to receive them any day now and they then should be available after the holiday.

Yes solutions from Alpa - we're a dealer for them, and Cambo, etc., MIGHT be better but this is another tool to consider that does offer some advantages.

Well I have been using one for 7 months now. While it was a preproduction model, it was really close. It is a great camera, but I have to agree with rainer, that it is horrible to focus. Especially if one does not carry around a notebook for liveview and such stuff. Otherwise the camera works very well and is a joy to use.

Isn't it possible to use lenses in helical focus mounts? At least wide-angle lenses would be easier to focus?
