Paper Suggestion Please for Epson 3800
« on: December 19, 2009, 02:14:07 am »

I like Epson Enhanced Matte Paper but I would like a slightly heavier paper with a just noticeable raised grain. I do not want to use a "coated" paper. What should I be looking at?

While I haven't printed much matte paper on my 3800, on my retired 2100 I used Moab Entrada Natural 300g paper. It also comes in a bright white finish. Both versions are much heavier than Epson's EMP.
You might want to see if you find a sampler pack.
I also used Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308g but in the end I had a slight preference for the Moab papers and prices for Moab stuff was much cheaper (at least in Switzerland) than those for Hahnemuhle papers.

To give you an idea of prices and sizes:

Not sure what you mean by "coated".  All inkjet papers are coated ... without a receptive coating the results would be pretty poor.  I don't use matt papers any longer, but from what you describe you may want to look at Epson Exhibition Fiber, Ilford Galerie Gold Fiber Silk, and Hahnemuhlee Fine Art Pearl and Fine Art Baryta.  The Epson paper is very flat and feeds through a 3800 quite easily.
