Printer Purchase
« on: December 18, 2009, 07:46:07 pm »

I am soon to purchase a new printer. I am looking at the Epson 9880 or the Epson 9900. Working out the ink costs in ml the 350ml cart of the 9900 works out a little over 5 cents per ml cheaper than the 9880 from a 220ml cart.

My questions are; 1. Do both printers have the same ink cover rate, ie: use the same amount of ink? 2. If I used a 150ml cart for green and a 700ml light, light black would they run out about the same time in normal use? 3. Do the ink cover doors closed over the 700ml carts, unlike say the Epson 7000?

I will take any advice or help in choosing the printer or how to get one at the lowest cost with out risking problems.

Thanks Bob

Bob,
Sorry you have had no responses to your question. Its just that this same question is asked just about once a week for the last 52 weeks. Rather then go into depth do a quick search and you will find dozens of answers that may help you. My 2 cents, go with the 9900 it is one fantastic machine and puts out stunning prints. Operational costs are all about the same so I would not get too caught up in this cost per print thing. Just to add I have all 700ml carts except for green and orange (350ml) Those 2 at least for me use considerably less ink. The next time I might even replace them with 150's.

1.  pretty close.
2.  unsure.  Guessing no, but you are the right track.  LK and LLK will go much faster, so running 700's in those two is logical if using 350's in the others.
3.  The doors cover the larger cartridges, in fact you cannot run the printer with the doors open.

As Dan mentioned, a wealth of information if you search the forum ( if you can wade through it all).  Bottom line, I'd get the 9900 because of the superior roll paper feed system, superior cutter,  sturdier build quality, 40% faster printing speed, and state of the art output quality.

Thanks Dan and Wayne, your right should have looked deeper. I think I was set on the 9900, just setting it in ink so to speak. Now have to find a good deal!

Does that mean you can still get the rebate? I see a few sites still have the rebate form for download and say there is a $1000 rebate. Maybe they don't update  to often or some such.........

Officially the rebate ended Oct. 31st.
