Bag for Alpa 12SWA + stuff
« on: December 18, 2009, 12:50:19 pm »

I have been using an Alpa for a relatively short time and am wondering what people use for a camera bag.  I have a large-ish Billingham (It is a "presstop" perhaps 225, but maybe a 206??), which seems to work with Hassy 501 stuff, but it really does not work with my Alpa equipment, which is as follows:

Alpa 12swa with finder and 48 and 36 lenses
Lee filter system (ring, shade, several 4x4 filters)
6x9 alpa film holder, several rolls of film
sometimes Hassy CFV digital back and imagebank
spot and incident meters

Basically, there is little room for the extra lens and Lee stuff; otherwise the camera fits OK with film and meters.

Does anyone have thoughts on a good shoulder bag to use with this group?

Thanks,

Michael

are you interested in JUST  a shoulder bag? Or would a light backpack work ok?

if you're walking any great distance, the backpack might offer more comfort, with easier storage than a shoulder bag

if you're looking for a shoulder bag, I really have liked Crumpler. they're not cheap, but very well made.

Tamrac also has some nice shoulder bags as well, maybe not as flashy, but I doubt you're wanting flashy, especially with an Alpa inside

Thanks for the thoughts.  I have a backpack that can take everything, but it is a pain to unload (especially in snow/mud when there is no place to set it down -- It also has a tripod attachment, which is nice).

What I would like is a shoulder bag, since I can keep it on (or attach to tripod, depending) and get things in and out.  Also, since my digital back is always tethered to the imagebank (battery and hard disk), it is nice to have something to keep that in with just the cable coming out of the bag.

I will look into crumpler styles.

Thanks,
Michael

I would also suggest looking at the KATA line of bags.  They have a number of designs that carry well.

Also, I think they  are made nicely.  And, I have no connection with them.
