Z3100 margin issues
« on: December 11, 2009, 10:16:18 pm »

I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to reduce the bottom margin on my photos from what looks like always 3/4". Whenever I print from sheets, whether it be 13x18 or 24x30, I always get a 3/4" margin on the bottom of my print. I've tried everything to reduce this margin, looks OK in all previews, but when it prints, there is that margin again. I've tried printing from both photoshop and lightroom with the exact same results. I've tried all the different margin setups in the printer driver...no luck.

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Harry

With all respect, how would you solve paper transport of a sheet without some extra margin at the trailing edge of the sheet?

There are some options in the printer driver (never tried them).

Of course it can be perfectly done with an endless sheet = a roll and the cutter on.

I don't know how, but my measly Epson 2200 can print right to the end of a sheet. I know I could go with rolls, but I am using the Epson Exhibition Fiber that only comes in sheets. And yes the 3/4" at the end of the sheet is no big deal...except I have about 30 mats precut with an opening that would be just a little to large because of this 3/4" of margin.

You might be right, that the transport mechanism in the z3100 prohibits printing on the last 3/4" of the sheet. I've tried all the different margin settings in the printer driver and all produce the same 3/4" margin.

Tape an extra piece of paper to the length but make sure the tape is applied well as otherwise it may get transferred to the paper transport axle. Do not overlap the paper pieces as the sensor switch in the paper insert path can get caught between the overlap. It isn't a nice solution but I wouldn't know another one. Any compensation on the 3 other margins makes a smaller print.

The smaller the printer, the thinner the transport mechanism can be and by that a smaller trailing edge margin is possible.
