S90 and Lightroom Users, how do you remove
« on: December 02, 2009, 04:43:02 am »

S90 and Lightroom Users, how do you remove that annoying barrel distorsion without using DPP ?

Of course we can use the lens distorsion correction filter + cropping tool in Photoshop, but it adds time to the workflow.

Do you know some plugins for Lightroom 2 that do a good job ?

And how do you manage your workflow ?

Have a Nice Day !

Although I haven't tried myself I think that PTLens might do the trick: http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/
A 10 images demo can be downloaded.

Many thanks François !

And I've just discovered that Lightroom 2.6 RC automatically remove that distorsion.

Yes, the S90 is now well supported.

Have a Nice Day.

Really ????
I haven't seen mention of perspective correction in LR (and therefore ACR) before.

Can this be something new that will be added to LR3 when it ships ?

AFAIK it's automatic and undefeatable for certain P&S models where the lens has masive distortion that is automatically corrected by the in-camera JPG engine. I believe ACR also does something similar for the Panasonic LX3.

But there are no general distortion controls in ACR that you can use (there should be, though).

Correct for the S90. The wideangle distortion is massive indeed, to the point that the images were unusable at the widest setting if not processed through DPP. Bravo Adobe. Would be nice if there were distortion controls in LR3.

Eric Chan and our Dear Host here and a vocal Mr Schewe here are hinting that LR3 Beta is not feature complete, so there is still hope.

Yes, I follow you to ask for control of the distorsion correction.

If possible a complete control like in Photoshop filter.

But even a simple "Enable distorsion correction" buttonwould be interresting.

Have a Nice Day
