The challenge with calculating DMAX is that it depends on whether you used the printer driver or a dedicated RIP. It also depends on whether the deepest black was an absolute deepest black or whether all other primary colors were tested together to determine the best media type for profiling the paper, and *then* measuring the black. Many variables, for sure.

I actually prefer the method of how Colorthink 3.0 calculates the gamut volume, and then using that number to explain much more than just how black is the deepest black.

My primary interest was not in the specific D-Max listed but in which papers had the higher numbers given that Neil used the same method for the calculation. So going by his chart, and the previous messages, any matte or glossy paper within .2 of the highest reading would basically be visually equal.

The other reason I checked his chart was because I tried a couple of sheets of Canson Rag Photographique and liked the whiter base color vs Epson Ultrasmooth and was curious to see how it compared on D-Max.

I have also been curious about the Epson Hot Press Natural which will get here eventually but according to Neil's chart that would the same as Rag Photographique.
