this depends on the what epson printers you are talking about. If we are only talking about consumer level printers, which the Kodaks are, then most likely they are as archival as their epson equivalents. The reason the kodak printers are "cost effective" for ink is the heads are not part of the ink cartridge like other low priced consumer printers, meaning the replacement ink cartridges are cheaper to make. So cheap consumer Kodak might cost less to print from than cheap consumer Epson.
Certainly the Kodak's aren't any where close to the professional line of Epson printers if comparing ink costs, archival qualities or print quality.
