Canon 70-200 f/4 L
« on: November 17, 2009, 12:46:41 pm »

I've just bought my first L lens, and just want to check something:

Is it normal for the focus ring to continue to rotate once it has stopped affecting the focus? This happens turning both clockwise and anti-clockwise, in both MF and AF modes. I assume this is to allow the focus ring to be used even in AF mode.

No lens I've had previously, behaved like this...

Yes it's normal. Don't worry. It's because it uses the USM system. Other lenses than "L"s also use this system.

Yes, that is normal on many Canon USM lenses.

Jonathan, as a long time lurker, I've lost count of the amount of times you've posted f**kwit comments on threads when it'd be better just to STFU and move along. I have RTFM, and could see no mention of this...thanks for your pearls of wisdom though...
