Just back from Bosque

Stu,

I will be there at the end of this month. Of course I scheduled the trip as a result of seeing Michael's pix on this site and doing a bit of Internet research on the Bosque. Looking forward to it.

Well, I was blown away by this place. My wife even got up three mornings in a row to see the fly out. We have a place in Santa Fe, so we will be visiting often when we are here the right months.

I would love to show a couple of images, but I don't know how to include them. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Steve

I used Canon EOS 1VHS with EF 600mm f4 plus 1.4. I used Al Servo AF mode, which allows me to track as the subjects fly by. In the AE, I used A "aperture mode" and some time I gave a little +0.3 to +0.7 to bring back soem detail. But, I would use manual mode if there are too much light different such as sunset.

Hi Folks,

For those who haven't been to Bosque, I would put it on my something one must do at least once list.  I was there this past weekend and I'm not a hard core bird shooter at all. Having done mainly the bald eagles in Squamish BC, but when the blast off happens at dawn, it truly is an awe inspiring sight!  Then the sandhill cranes just outside the reserve... if one want's a serious case of lens envy....sigh!

I shot the whole weekend on film, can't wait to get the images processed!

Gee, now I not only have camera envy and lens envy, but trip envy too.  Sigh.

Hope the photos turn out great.  Get some up on the web for those of us who haven't been there!

Cheers!

I agree with all of you. Bosque is a breathtaking place for sunrise and sunset(and of course crane, and snowgeese). I was there during Christmas week of 2002 and we had some snow! The pond was frozen, so I got some nice shots of cranes taking off and landing.  For more pictures, check my new website: www.nopnatureimages.com
