Sinar backs and Windows
« on: November 10, 2009, 05:31:02 pm »

I am about to purchase an eMotion 75LV back and have been researching the software. Apparently the newer versions of eXposure run on Windows, however Captureshop doesn't. I want to just import the files, convert them to DNGs and process them in Lightroom. Is this possible with eXposure? Can this be done without a Mac?

Thanks,
Andrew

Yes, it's possible with eXposure, and I heard a *rumour* long ago that the Windows version of eXposure was out in beta form but I have never seen it. You would need to speak to Sinar about this.

Thanks for the reply Graham,
Sinar put out a press release last year saying the were finishing up the Windows version of eXposure. I haven't seen any more recent releases, though.
Cheers,
Andrew

Now I'm confused (again)

Here is the complete text of the email reply I received from Sinar technical support on 26 October 2009 about this question:

Dear Peter

Thank you for contacting Sinar.

The version of Sinar eXposure which is downloadable from our website can only be operated on Apple Computers with
Os 10.4.x / 10.5.x.

Sinar eXposure for windows exist only as a beta version which supports only a few Sinar digital backs as well as cameras.
Therefore, these version are not for public use.

Best regards

Thanks Peter for posting that reply from Sinar. It appears then that eXposure for Windows has been in beta for well over a year. I wonder what the delay is.

My guess is that Sinar is not working on the windows version any more. (again-just my guess-maybe I am wrong)
I have used the beta version and it does work but not allways reliable. It is also not the latest version of exposure-for example white shading does not work.
After hoping for a non-beta windows version for months and not getting reliable answers from Sinar I had decided to get a MACbook (frankly quite a good reason to justify the purchase of a Mac)
Also firmware upgrade seem only possible with apple

Hi Paratom,
Where did you download your Beta version? I'd love to buy a Macbook, but the equipment fund is bare after the purchase of a MFDB and mamiya system. I also have too much other hardware and software that is Windows only, and I am about to travel around Australia for a year and don't want to take another machine.
Thanks,
Andrew

Put Windows on the Macbook. That way you've got access to both right on one computer.

I would like to see a Windows version released purely so that I can use a vastly cheaper laptop as my location workhorse, which can be splashed with water or sprinkled with sand now and then, and it won't be too expensive to replace. The Macs are far too fragile and expensive for field work, imo.

There was a Beta version (of CaptureShop) when I was at SBI (US), that was never released. and I left in 2006.
