Sinar eMotion 75LV hot pixel
« on: November 04, 2009, 05:16:35 pm »

I'd like to ask fellow Sinar MFDB users if their backs show hot or stuck pixels. Mine has one, showing as a bright magenta dot in some raw developers when processing DNG files converted via eMotion DNG (namely C1 and Iridient, the latter with hot pixel detection switched off). Lightroom seems to correct this automatically, so does Captureshop.  I would expect such an expensive back to show no hot pixels at all (and I am probably unrealistic in that expectation, the fact though is that none of the other digital cameras I have used so far ever showed this problem). What is your experience? Is it worth sending the back to Sinar for remapping? How long does it take? Would you consider it a reason for a warranty claim? Thanks in advance for your views. Martin

It's said almost every MFDB has about 100 to 300 dead or hot pixels, however, these dead/hot pixels should be recorded in the digital back's ROM (Read Only Memory) so the firmware can post-process them (eg. just simply copy one neighbor pixel to overwrite the dead/hot pixel).

I was getting 100-300 hot-pixel-like magenta/red dots per shot (if shot was taken with long exposure) on my Aptus 75. I used 'hot-pixel-like' term, beause the pixels appear in variable places, so it's not a hot/dead pixel strictly speaking. Software handles those, I wouldn't bother myself with it. I don't have a single sample in which these hot pixels would mess up the shot / affect the quality, so if you have ONE real hot or dead pixel than it's no bother.

1 pixel normally would not print as it is smaller than any printer can resolve.
