I Bought A New Mac Book Pro, How To View Pics?

So, I'm a masochist and bought yet another Apple product.  I felt as though I never gave the MAC OS a chance and decided to on this trip, without Windows as a crutch.  I'm on vacation and there are parts of the OS I like, but I like Windows implementation of viewing pics.  Why can't I click on a pic and scroll through the next and the next and the next without highlighting every image 1st?  Is there an Mac app like ACDSee?   I don't really like viewing pics in Lightroom, but will if I have to.  Suggestions please?

OK, so I see ACDSee has a beta out and I just DL it now and am trying it out, but what did others use before?

In the finder select all the pics you want to view and hit the space bar.

Try Preview. which should be your default. It has some basic tools like crop, soft proof etc.

No, Apple's photography application is iPhoto which is on all new Macs. It has lots of features for viewing photos though it can be slow in creating albums.

If you're using Snow Leopard (the latest OS version) note the two arrows that point away from each other when you're "Quick Viewing" files. That puts the file into full screen.

That's the best Apple can do.

I've used iPhoto and Preview and I must say they both are lousy.  I downloaded ACDSee in Beta form and that works nice.  I'm surprised Apple isn't at the very least Microsoft's equal in this arena!  Very nice laptop, but there are some glitches.

The Mac OS is very photo friendly. Using Finder, you can quickly scroll through all the images in a folder similar to the cover flow feature of the iPhone.

I can't really call it user friendly simply  because Microsoft's version is worlds better.  What I like, the design of the laptop, the quick wake up, the quick boot up and shut down.  Trackpad is great and keypad is 2nd to only the IBM, oops, I mean the Lenovo.  I wish there was a numeric keypad, but there isn't.  I just can't believe that there isn't a version of a photo viewer that is Microsoft's equal.  I paid the "Apple Tax" and expect to get some value.  iPhoto and Preview are below average and they should at least be average.

It may be more than you need, but Photo Mechanic is the fastest browser that I have tried on the Mac.

Thank you, yes that's what I was looking for, it's very expensive but at first glance seems very nice.  I'll try that and ACDSee.

You can download a free trial of Apple's Aperture if you want a more extensive photo browser/editor.

In addition to being a very fast browser, Photo Mechanic is also a versatile and complete metadata editor. If you need to add/edit vast reams of metadata to large numbers of photos, PM is great. It takes a while to set up, but then it blazes through the photos.
