Length limits of Epson printers
« on: October 19, 2009, 04:11:47 pm »

I just read Michael's Epson 3880 report, where he says "... is limited to 17" width paper, but one can always cut lengths from a roll and feed them manually, and in any event, 17X22" is about as big as most people usually need to print ... ".

Being one of those people who regularly do want longer prints, I've long wondered a bit about the actual printer limits. I have an R2400 which I chose in large part because it prints up to 44" long. I print regularly in the 25" to 30" range, either for true panoramas or narrow aspect crops of single images.

Does anybody know what happens if you try to print on a 3880 with a sheet cut from a roll and custom paper size of say 13x27? (On a Mac if that matters.)

It'll work fine, right up to the point you specify a paper length of 37 and change (less than 38")  and then all h*ll breaks loose.

if you want more length than that, you're going to need RIP software and not use the Epson driver.
