Vertical Orientation of Leaf and Phase backs on V-cameras
« on: October 19, 2009, 01:00:40 pm »

hi,

i am looking at some nice offers of used Leaf and Phase One  backs for Hasselblad V-Cameras. i haven´t found a definite answer wether these backs can be put on the Hassy in portrait orientation or not. if not, the use of the WLF is not an option for me anymore.

is the hasselblad-V system still a viable option for digital? are there adapters to use a mfdb with V-mount on the Mamiya-RZ (i am only aware of one for the RB?

thanks in advance!

Hi Felipe,
yes all P1 V-Mount backs can be put in horizontal and portrait mode. Of course you have to unlock the back for this (which is not a big deal imho)
The V-Sytem is still a great system I think. Lenses (except the 40mm) are quite cheap used (get CF or more recent if you're still looking for glass). Focussing can be a bit tricky in the beginning and 1/60sec handheld is no longer an option for me.
For most applications (in the studio), the V-System is as good ass any other MF system. (unless you're working in the  busy fashion/beauty business)

All V-mount Leaf backs can be fitted vertically on V-series bodies. Leaf makes a rotating adapter for the RZ as well.

Best is to contact the Leaf dealer in your country who will be able to advise you on the exact part # (there are 3 different ones for different sensor sizes) and the price.
Eco-Digital in Japan make an RZ adapter for Contax backs
