Bing

I have recently switched my home page on my browser over from Google to Bing.  Not because Bing is a better search engine (I don't know if it is better or not, it just finds things, just like Google), but because of the photos.  Every day they put up a new photo on the main page; most are pretty good, and some are excellent.  I just like looking at them, which is why I switched.

Am I alone in this?

First positive reaction to bing I've heard that didn't revolve around its pr0n finding capabilities.

I've found that for basic searches Bing and Google return pretty much identical results.  The reason I stick with Google is because I already know the syntax for doing more complex searches and that comes in pretty handy. I just can't be bothered to learn the advanced features of a new search engine. And I use the search bar in the browser, so I never see the "home page" of the search engines anyway.

I started using Bing when I was going through search engine optimisation with my website - I actually really like it.

Its partly because Bing is the underdog of search engines compared to the monster that is google - I just like backing the underdog.

Well, since Bing is owned by Microsoft, not so much of an underdog...  Nice picture on the home page, though!

yes - owned by MS - but in terms of search engines.. its definitely the underdog.


MS has proven in the past it takes more than $ to knock google from its No.1 perch.

They're already screwed.  When you want to search for something online you 'google it'.  Even if you do not use google you still google it.  You don't 'Bing it'.  (Unless we're talking beating one's kids with oranges.  In that case one is 'Binging it.')  So the branding war is already lost.

What Mickeysoft needs to do it convince people that Google is a NSA front operation.  (Which is actually what I think it is.)

True, but these days you can hoover the floor using an Electrolux or a Dyson or whatever.  Or you can capture that Kodak moment on your Canon.  When I drink a Coke the label on the bottle will, as often as not, be Pepsi.  I'm sure you can think of other examples.

The "what do you think" page on The Onion web site had a similar reaction when Bing was first announced: "Bing? That's interesting. I'll google it when I get home".

Out of curiosity I just googled "bing" and got a huge pile of hits (including an occasional "Bing Crosby" but mostly references to M$'s search engine). So then I went to the "bing.com" website and binged "google", which gave me only one hit: Google.com. Maybe Bing has more bling than Google, but so far I'm not impressed.
