Yes one of the very best ever has gone.
But his pictures will stay with us forever.
I have to say that this man was one of the reasons I became a photographer.

For anyone in or near LA, Penn's exhibit "Minor Trades" at the Getty is magnificent. If that was the only thing he accomplished in his career, it would have been a career well spent. The fact that it was just one small part of his body of work is unbelievable. It's sad that he's gone, but Irving Penn left behind work that will last a long, long time.

Indeed he was incredible. Everything he photographed was touched by magic and in each of his images his honesty and passion shines through. It was his book 'Worlds In A Small Room' that was instrumental in me becoming a photographer, and for this I can't thank him enough.

He has had a good innings and has left so much brilliant work behind as a legacy. I urge anybody to go and look at his platinum prints if they can. Simply stunning work, everyone a masterpiece.

A sad day for photography...
