Different Color in Photoshop/LR and in Preview
« on: October 05, 2009, 11:51:53 pm »

Hello,

I am running a Unibody MBP 15" and a 24" LED ACD. I profile with Coloreyes Display Pro and a Spyder3. I have excellent screen to print matching from Photoshop or LR.

I notice that images exported from PS (CS4) or LR (v 2.5) appear different in Preview and other Mac system applications than they do in PS/LR. Generally, they are more saturated and shifted towards magenta. I have only begun noticing this in the past few months. It does not seem to be consistent with all images, primarily ones exported from PS/LR. If I untag a photo in PS, it will appear correctly in Preview, regardless of the actual color space.

Thoughts?

Many thanks,

Michael Morrison

Perhaps the OS is using the same profile to run both monitors, but PS/LR is not. Or vice versa.

Hello Jonathan,

Bingo.

On the MBP monitor, color is correct. On the 24" it is not. Now, to figure out the tagging part of the equation. . .

Thanks!

That apparently is an issue under Snow Leopard I’ve heard reported. That is, if you hook up a secondary display, it gets “confused” as to the correct display profile. If you log out and back in again, all is said to be fine. More an issue for those using laptops and attaching and removing displays from it often.

Hello Andy,

Thanks for this. I am still using 10.5.8, rather than SL, but I'll do some logging out and in and see what happens.

Thanks,

Michael

You're right, I've noticed that too. I'm not sure why but I think that Preview might not be colorspace aware.
