C1 4 Pro with Mac G5
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:19:48 pm »

I also posted this in Other Raw Converters.

Is anyone able to run C1 4 Pro on a G5 power mac. I know Phase says it does not meet system requirements although I have heard a few people say it is posable.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

It may work, but it seems less than ideal as many have reported (not surprisingly) random erratic behavior if it works at all.

I would recommend this if budget is a consideration:

I'm using C1 4.82 on my mac quad G5 running OS-X 10.5x        It will work but I sometimes get crashes.  Nothing ever lost - mostly the crashes are when I'm done and I want to close the application it won't close and I have to restart the computer.

I would give it a week before I buy an iMac or a mac mini....

I am running C1 4.83 on my G5 (10.5.8) without crashes so far - although installed only very recently.

I run capture one on an original G5 2 ghz x 2 processor with 7gb ram. It runs but slow and definitely needs more graphic card than the 64mb one installed. Hasselblad Phocus is similar. Neither are supposed to run on my machine but they do , but not when they first came out. I use a Macbook pro on location. I really like to process Canon through capture one but I have noticed files seem noisier and wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the incompatibility. They are much cleaner through ACR which runs very smoothly on this machine as does Canon's DPP and Hasselblad Flexcolor. I also go back to capture one pro ( the old version) as that still works fine but capture one has much better sharpening and many other improvements.
When work volume picks up a little I'll upgrade , Apple's huge recent price increases here didn't encourage me.

I also use Capture One on a dual G5. It runs very slowly but it runs.

Thanks all for the input, I have both G5 tower and Intel macbook pro, trying to hold off the upgrade of the tower. I will give it a try now, can't hurt.
