Epson 4880 won't detect paper
« on: September 24, 2009, 12:02:46 pm »

THis seems to happen only when I am printing a nozzle check. The printer pulls in the sheet of paper (I can see it under the print head), the print head goes back and forth a few times, and then I get the "reload paper" message.

Any ideas or cures?

Thanks,

Peter

I have the same issue with my 4800 recently.  It happens with regular printing, too, not just nozzle checks and on several sheet sizes.

Worse, there seems to be no elegant recovery procedure.  The only way I can "reload paper" is to shut off the printer and re-start it.  The printer then form-feeds the "bad" sheet.

I'm all ears for a cause and solution to this problem.

Why shut it off? I just release the lever on top, lift the cover, grab the sheet and either reposition it or(usually) just refeed it.

In my experience, doing what you say results in a repeat of the same error.

I haven't tried this.  I will next time the error appears.

Problem is it's not a paper jam.  The printer does not feed (pickup) the paper at all. I did push against the top edge of the paper and it did catch, but that's not the way it should work.
