Looking for Photo Finishing Service in Toronts Area
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:01:09 pm »

I have recently returned from a trip to 4 National Parks in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah and am looking for a photo finishing service to make some 16 x 20 inch prints. I live in the Toronto area.

Currently have an Epson 2880 which does a great job but need to do a few of them in a larger format.

Does anyone have suggestions where they have had good experiences in the past.

Thanks.

What kind of prints are you after? I'm not in the Toronto area (although I went to school there a long time ago!) but would be happy to ship to Canada. http://www.danecreekfolios.com/fine-art-prints/.

And, what parks did you hit in Utah? Any highlights? I'm leaving on Friday for a 9 day trip there

That's what I was thinking.  http://www.pikto.ca/

Michael had a show there a few years back.

Thanks, Neil. I will take a look at your site. I wish to do 3-5 16x20's. As mentioned I currently use the Epson R2880 with the Ultra Chrome K3 inkset on Ilford Gold Fiber Silk paper and am very happy with tha combo.

I have a fully color managed workflow (to the extent that I can) so am comfortable proofing on my monitor with ICC profiles ( my monitor displays Roughly ARBG).

Thanks to both Mike and Tim, I will check this out today. Seem to remember this from years ago.

Neil,

We visited Zion for 3 days and Bryce Canyon for 2 days.  This was after spending a week in the Grand teton/Yellowstone area.

The drive between Zion and Bryce on Route 89 (I believe) is also very good. There is an extended area just north-east of the turnoff towards Bryce that offers some spectacular sunrise photography at this time of year. You can get some wonderful fog-rising events.

Otherwise both parks were just amazing for my wife and I with plenty of sunrise and sunset opportunities. If you can, stay at the Zion Best Western. Great location, fantastic hotel, and for us, reasonable price.

Have fun!

As for your service I did download youe ICC frofile for the Ilford and proofed one photo. The profile looked good for me on that picture, but the "proof" they say is in the print. What is the shipping cost/method to Canada?

Thanks

Don

I have had very poor experiences with Pikto ink-jet printing.  It took them a ridiculous number of times to get a print that didn't have streaks or damage of some sort.  Colourgenics or the Toronto Image Works are much better choices.

There's also Toronto Image Works.

I'm in Oshawa and have a 3800.  I can pretty much guarantee that my prices will be less than either Pikto or TIW.

I can recommend Steven Craneford - in North York - 416-701-9292 - he has an Epson 44" wide format printer - works out of his home - you can see his work when you visit - very professional and been doing it for years
