MF DB - video
« on: September 17, 2009, 01:01:31 pm »

Just thinking out loud,

I got into MFDBs some years ago (2005?) , 16bit, nice files Raw  Decent flash synch, things that were missing of DSLRs of the generation

DSLRs do all of that now (apart from the flashsynch)

MFDBs kind of lost their USP and their way

Now Im moving into 'motion' once again the DSLR manufacturers are rolling out flawed systems with piles of pointless features, in camera looks et al but kind of missing the basic: 24 raw images per second and a decent monitor

Surely Phase or suchlike should create a motion back

24FPS, RAW capture

Id even be happy shooting motion tethered to a a brick like the old digibacks

If the back had enough control the body would only need to be a 'lens spacer' like ALPA

Heck they could even make a back for a 16mm movie cam !

Thoughts ?

I'm sure you heard about RED even at FF 6x17 250fps

It would be nice to see Phase and others going in that direction soon though.

That would be sweet....there is Vision research Phantom. not sure of chip size, but it might be larger than 35 frame.

have you seen ccd camera backs in live image mode? quality is improved with variable ND filter like the Liquid crystal shutter on some sinar systems
but you can only record off the screen

Sure Ive heard of Red - they seem to be playing a similar game (with a different approach to marketing) to the DB companies a few years ago

It would be fun to have a back that just need a lens mount 'block' be that ALPA, nikon F3, Horseman Digifex, Hass H1 or preferably all of them

Digital Film - in other words - which is exactly what my original Eyelike was

Even the chip from a nikon D1 would be a fantastic motion recorder
