I'm looking for a RIP solution for my Epson 9900 that will allow layout (nesting), longer prints then driver permits, postscript conversion, and preferably profiling support. not asking a lot, really
Does anyone know of such an anomaly? I searched in ONYX, Shiraz, EFI, but hen you go for 44", you pay 1/3 printer for the software.

Qimage if you run a Windows system and Qimage even if you run a Mac but then with some additions. Postscript: print from Adobe Reader or rasterise the PDFs etc with Adobe Reader, InDesign or Photoshop and print the 360/720 PPI Tiffs then from Qimage.

The profiling request has been answered in the other thread.

In hindsight you could have done yourself a favor with the purchase of a Z3200-PS, it has all aboard and the rest could have been done by Qimage. Within your budget too.

I tried Qimage, the program's interface is a bit lacking in my opinion. also, it might be my bad, but I received better results from photoshop directly.
About the Z3200PS - you're right, it takes epson's solution by far, but (and I really wouldn't go into this), print quality in non comparable between the Epson and the HP (guess to whom I'm leaning toward...)

Consider ImageNest if you are a Mac user. It's fantastic for nesting (with really good nesting algorithms and control) and extremely user friendly. http://www.bluecubit.com/

As a side note, it's worth mentioning that Canon iPF printers actually come with free nesting software, although it's not as impressive as ImageNest.

Maybe Photoprint se (amiable technologies), ciberprint, or futurerip? Not sure if these rips support Epson printers.

I would give Qimage 2 thumbs up with my 9900.

The interface is a bit strange at first but the prints come out great imho.

It has a few niggles at times which are annoying, but for the price you cannot complain.

Doubt you get better results straight from PS.

If you get better prints straight from PS than through QImage, you are doing something wrong. I highly recommend QImage.

proofmaster is at the lower cost end of the market and i have installed an Efi Express rip which was profiled for iso 39
you can load in profiles for paper types/targets that have already been made.
both these rips are mac or pc

Wasatch SoftRIP would be my recommendation to you.
I didn't check on the compatibility for your printer but Wasatch has
versions for all brands.

Best in the business nesting.

In RIP's you get what you pay for. I own Wasatch, Onxy Production House and
have tried others.

I have the Wasatch SoftRip. If it can drive an N-color 9900 as good as it can drive the N-color Z3100 / Z3200 I would not recommend it. The HP driver does a better job in my experience. Qimage does the rest. Adobe programs the Postscript. I seriously recommend to check what paper/profile presets are available for the 9900 in the Wasatch SoftRip and have a demo experience before sending any money. With the Wasatch you still need a PC to run the software.

I second that. Not only is the color handling inferior but it's nesting isn't particularly great either.

True and not true.
Half the time people asking for a RIP get more than they wanted, in features, complexity and limitations.
Define what a RIP is and you will see that many RIPs do not fall in that category.
Chance the definition and another group doesn't fit.

There have been threads here before on this subject.

That mistake may have cost you $80, the person who buys a RIP is usally spending several 1000s.
