Hassy 110mm f2 planar on digital back??
« on: September 03, 2009, 11:08:45 am »

Anyone doing it this way? I plan on getting the lens with adapter for use on Mamiya. I'm wondering if the smaller digital chip (as opposed to a large square 6x6 piece of film) takes away from the magic of the lens. I will shoot wide open portraits, and want that shallow depth of field. Any comments or samples from users would be appreciated. Source for adapters also needed.

You need to try this yourself cause everyone shoots different.

This was with the 110 wide open on a Contax,  I think with a P30+ or maybe an Aptus 22, don't remember but I do know that the difference between a 1.24 crop vs a 1.14 crop isn't that great or make that much of a difference cause anything at F2 past 80mm is gonna have a lot a fall off.

It's a pretty lens but I'd suggest mounting a laptop next to your camera because focus is critical at F2 and the lcd's on the digital backs ain't gonna tell you much.

You don't want to shoot a session and only get someone's ear sharp.

Honestly, other than than this lens has more contrast I can't see any difference between it at F2 and a Canon 85 at 1.2 or 1.4, especially for portraits.

I just got mine recently. I can't compare it to shooting on 6x6 film, but I can at least post a sample:

I use the Rolle Version of the 110 on my Hy6 and like the lens a lot.

Hassy FE 110 f 2.0 - 1/60th at wide Open or at 2.8 - ISO 200.

End of the day trying out the new Leaf Aptus II 10 on the Contax 645 with an adapter.

Second image is getting a much needed haircut for my son.  Same setup.
