Nice, thanks for sharing.

I like the first one best. I understand that you are showing us a variety of work, but it can result in a certain of lack of unity or style.

That's one thing to watch for.

Cheers,
Bernard

Theme's I see have their advantages, I sort of wanted people to say that's technically wrong here, or should have done that there etc. I am a beginner you see.
But duly noted Bernard.

First image, I like the stormy mood and the monochromatic color palette (saturation may be pushed a bit too far though). I also think this is an example where breaking the rules and placing the horizon center-frame works. The water is a bit choppy though, I think the image might have been better if you could have used a longer exposure to smooth out the waves some.

Second image, I like the way the ocean seems to be reclaiming the wreckage. I think the tide level is important here; higher or lower and the image wouldn't have worked as well for me. The piece of wreckage/rock on the right edge of the frame is a little distracting; it's usually better to keep things like this away from the edge, or out of the image altogether (sometimes there just isn't a 'clean' cutoff point for the image though so we have to do the best we can). Post-processing wise, the sky seems oversaturated to me, although I do like the greens and blues in the water.

The last image just doesn't do anything for me. The detail in the birds head/eye is good, but the image is just way too cluttered, and selective color doesn't solve the problem.

Thank you JeffKohn. I understand your reasoning, I think I know why I was overdoing the saturation. I must not push the image too far in order to attempt to make it 'interesting' as inevitably it spoils it. Composition and lighting should make the image I guess. Im trying to uneccesarily make up for my lack of equipment..I think.

That's a good idea on the first image with lengthening the shutter speed, I should always have my tripod handy!
The crop (or lack of) on the second is so obvious now!
And the 3rd, well I appreciate it isn't a very clean image.

I sincerely appreciate your feedback. Onwards and upwards!

Mike

Thanks for sharing.

#1.  What Jeff said about the long exposure.  Also, you might try out a version in B&W.

#2.  Good subject but the light isn't very interesting.  I think this is crying out to be a dawn or dusk shot.  Also, you might want to have a go at trying out a long exposure to give the waves and wash a misty effect.

#3.  Did you selectively desaturate the foliage?  If so, good idea because it brings out the subject in what is a very cluttered image.  However, it doesn't look too natural in what is after all a nature shot.  Desaturate by all means, but not all the way to monochrome.  I would also suggest  using a shallower DOF which would blur out everything apart from the head.  And on that, I don't think the subject is 100% in focus, you seem instead to have nailed the leaf just in front of the bird, to the right.  This is never a good thing in a nature shot.

Cheers

Welcome!

I like the first one a lot, although I do agree that a longer exposure would have improved it. I'd be interested to see a b&w version, but I suspect that the colour really does add something. The second seems to me to have the horizon too high: I'd prefer it with something cropped off the bottom as well as the right, but that's just me.

Jeremy

You should lose the unnecessary punctuation in your signature, by the way.

Ha good shout! Cheers eagle eye.

Yeah Jeremy I did check the b+w but it seemed a little more atmospheric in colour as per Kikashi's assumption. I thought someone would point out the focus thing, I didn't realise for ages and it was the only shot I could get.
Thank you again people im gonna go PS and relax.
