ImagePrint 7 and new version 8 - Still Needed These Days?
« on: August 29, 2009, 12:12:14 pm »

I owned several versions of ImagePrint over the past 5 years. My current version is v6 for the Mac OSX. Version 8 is now available. I'm considering sell it (dongle included) rather than upgrade because I don't use it much these days.

I'm printing to an Epson R2400. Most of my printing is directly from within Lightroom 2.4 on my MacPro (just upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday). The results are great.

I thinking that ImagePrint is now irrelevant and an inconvenience to the workflow. Any IP owners want to chime in with their thoughts and expiences?

Cheers.

I've V6 running from an older (10.4 PPC) Mac to drive my Epson9600, where the B/W quality is excellent on the Matt papers I use.

For my 7880 with Pk ink I just didn't see the benefits (for my type of work) for the rather steep up/crossgrade pricing.

V8 seems to offer a lot of features I'm unlikely to want to use. Where I did want tiling, I found that ImageNest on the Mac did all I wanted for much less, and with a more generous approach to upgrades/updates.

I'm sure there is a market for IP, it's just I no longer think I'm in it :-)

IP provided the only way I could get decent color out of my old Epson 2200 (I used QTR for B&W), but I upgraded to a 3800 a few months ago and I get better color and B&W just using Eric Chan's FAQs and notes and manufacturers' (and Eric's) profiles. I have no need for IP any more.

I went back to it after just using the Epson software for awhile after purchasing my 3800. I used the Epson software for like a year, including Eric Chan's profiles. I still feel like I get better shadow representation and overall fine tuning with IP on mat papers. I am starting to do some testing on the baryta papers.
