Running above the Circular Quay Railway Station is the Cahill Expressway which has a pedestrian footpath. You can access the footpath by lift which is near the start of the covered which goes to the Opera House. The footpath has good views of the Quay and if you follow it towards the bridge you will arrive at the southern pylon which you can climb for free.

You can get good views of the Opera House from top of the arrivals terminal. On the right side you will see the Toaster. Near the middle are some steps which you can climb to get a different view of the quay.

Ferry rides to Pyrmont Bay or Manly are also good for different views of the Bridge and Opera House and offer good food destinations too.

If you stay includes the weekend Cockatoo Island is very interesting. You can even camp there overnight. More info here: http://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/

Your a bit too early for this, but you will be able to Island Hop other Sydney Harbour Islands in October. More info here: http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parks/IslandHopping.htm

Lady MacQuaries Chair offers the classic wedding image of the Opera House and Bridge. From the Opera house just follow the path around the Botanical Gardens to to the other side of the Farm Cove.

You could go to Paddington and visit the Australian Centre for Photography (257 Oxford St), the Blender Gallery (Lomophotography – 16 ELIZABETH ST, PADDINGTON) and the take photos in the backstreets of the Victorian terraces.

Cheers,

Tom, thanks so much for replying.  I have both TS-E 17 and TS-E 24 II, do you think I should bring both for Architectural Photography?

Mate!

Sorry but are you refering to the Sydney Opera House (SOH) as Australian Architecture? I am Danish, though been down under for almost half my lift, and its never going to be Aussie design, its Danish! :-) by Jorn Utzon

i'll be in sydney next week too, from Perth, Western Australia, but its been covered so well, though I have to say, the lady who did the book on Utzon, has some really lovely images of the SOH, i think she is german. I can't remember her name.

anyway, walking around and even across the bridge gives you some interesting angles. inside is spectacular too, lots of repetetive patterns - though some of the decor is a bit dated IMHO

Have a great trip :-)

cheers

Henrik
