Canon 100 - 400 L IS
« on: August 18, 2009, 05:44:31 pm »

Hi all,

Is the clicking sound when the IS kicks in normal on this lens? the only sound i can hear on my 24 - 105 L IS is the system working, no clicking.

The click happens just after i depress the shutter button. everything else works well.

TIA.

Correct; the first generation IS on the 100-400 L zoom is a bit noisy. When you touch the shutter button you can hear the IS spooling up, and some soft to-and-fro clicking sounds. I presume this in part is because the glass element(s) being pushed around are a lot bigger in this lens than in the rather compact 24-105 zoom.

Correct, the 100-400 IS system is a lot louder louder than those in recent models like th 24-105 or the 70-200 f/4. If it clicks continually when the shutter button is depressed then it might be defective.

Yes, it does that. Still works great even though the newer lenses with IS are not so noisy.

Cheers,

Thanks for the feedback, that's one less thing to deal with!
